So who is Jesus?

There has been no more polarizing figure in all of human history than Jesus Christ. More books have been written about him, more artwork created of him, more songs sung to him than anyone else ever.

At Bethany Church, we’re all about Jesus, and the only way to get to know Jesus is to understand what the Bible says about him. We believe the Gospel changes everything: transforming our hearts, lives, families and communities.  You’re invited to join us as we get to know Jesus, and grow to become more like him, and show those around us the love of Jesus.

Living Savior

Jesus is actively drawing people to himself with the free offer of forgiveness to anyone who will believe that he is who he says he is and trust him. His offer is not conditional and not based on anything we do or don't do; it is a free gift from a Living Savior who created us to have fellowship with him.

Risen Lord

When we say that Jesus is our “Risen Lord”, we don’t mean it metaphorically. Jesus rose from the dead, appeared to eye-witnesses, and is currently alive and at work through the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth.

Jesus is, and always has been God. He came to earth fully human, yet fully God- meaning he understands the trials and challenges of life and is able to sustain us through them.

Jesus is available to all that would seek him. He asks us to cast our cares and anxieties on him and to seek his direction in all areas of life. He promises never to leave us nor forsake us.

Jesus & other beliefs

Our beliefs are historic, biblical, Jesus-focused. We include people of many backgrounds, and everyone belongs, because we keep Jesus first. These are our core beliefs. We may disagree over some various theological points, but our base is all the same.

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who know, love, and glorify one another. This one true and living God is worthy to receive all glory and adoration.

We believe that God has inspired the words of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. These writings alone constitute the Word of God, utterly authoritative, without error in the original writings, complete in its revelation of his will for salvation, sufficient for all that God requires us to believe and do.

We believe that baptism and Holy Communion  are ordained by the Lord Jesus himself. The former is connected with entrance into the new covenant community, the latter with ongoing covenant renewal. They are God's pledge to us and our public submission to Christ. We provide baptism of all ages, although the process varies for each age. We allow anyone who professes faith in Jesus to partake of Holy Communion at our open table.  Want to know more?

What do we do with these beliefs?

Bethany has had different names and affiliations over the past 3 centuries, but one thing that has remained the same is our Wesleyan Heritage. Founders of what would become the Methodist Church, the Wesley brothers sought to make disciples by going beyond Sunday mornings- a more holistic approach to their Christian formation. They studied the Bible, prayed, and worshiped together. They also served together, reaching out to those in their community who were in the most need. We may have moved away from this simple approach, but we are striving to come back to it by refocusing ourselves on making disciple makers.
